“In 2009 vs. 2008 the market demonstrated growth both in physical (by 3.5%) and monetary terms (by 18%). The market is growing in physical terms despite the continual increase of enzyme activities (which implies changes in their consumption rates).
Over 90% of the industry requirements for enzymatic products are satisfied by import. The proportion contributed by Russian manufacturers does not exceed 10%, respectively. Furthermore, over the last years the volume of domestic production is characterized by a trend to reduction resulting from the significant competition posed by foreign companies. The latter offer a wide range of continuously updated products. As noted by enzyme consumers, the performance of products proposed by the major Western companies compensates for higher costs of these products.
Export of enzymatic products is characterized by low volumes. It comprises both products made by Russian companies and foreign enzymatic products re-exported to other CIS countries…”
