Russian Market of Feedstuff of Animal Origin in 2008: Overview


Production

In 2008 vs. 2007, the production output of feedstuff of animal origin in physical terms increased by 19.7% and in monetary terms - by 42.6% which can be explained by the significant growth of fish flour market price.

As to the structure of production of feedstuff of animal origin in 2008, the leading position in physical terms was held by meat-and-bone meal tankage – 59.3% and by fish-meal flour in monetary terms – 62.5%. The share of blood meal production is insignificant.

In 2008, the production of feedstuff of animal origin in Russia took place in 73 RF constituents. Among the regions, the Kaliningrad Oblast runs first in the rating of compound feed producers. In 2008, its share was 15.9% in physical terms and 24.1% in monetary terms. Significant production outputs of compound feed in 2008 were also recorded in Primorsky Krai (8.8 and 13.8%), Perm Oblast (7.6 and 4.7%) and Kamchatka Oblast (6.9 and 10.8%). The aggregate share of thirteen leading regions (over 2.0% of the total production volume) in 2008 was 64.6 and 75.2% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.
 
 In 2008, more than 300 facilities manufactured feedstuff of animal origin.

In 2008, the Open Joint Stock Company “Kalinin Poultry Factory” held the top position in the Russian production of feedstuff of animal origin in physical terms – 4.6% and the Open Joint Stock Company “Nakhodka Base of Active Marine Fishing” was a leader in monetary terms. In 2008, there were 12 facilities in Russia, whose volume of production of feedstuff of animal origin exceeded 1.0% of the overall output in the RF in physical terms and 14 facilities – in value terms. Their aggregate share reached 23.0% in physical terms and 26.8% in monetary terms.

Import

In 2008 vs. 2007, the volume of imports of feedstuff of animal origin increased by 18.6 and 32.2% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.

In 2007-2008, supplies of fish meal flour prevailed in imports of feedstuff of animal origin. In 2008, the share of fish meal flour made up 60.8 and 77.9% in physical and value terms, respectively. The share of bone-and-meat meal tankage was 39.2 and 22.0%. The supplies of blood meal were insignificant.

In 2008, Denmark was dominating in imports of feedstuff of animal origin: its share in the total volume of import reached 26.6% in physical terms and Morocco – 23.4%. The overall volume of supplied feedstuff of animal origin by seven top countries (over 2.0% of the total import volume) in 2008 amounted to 97.9 % in physical terms.

Export

In 2008 vs. 2007, the volume of exports of feedstuff of animal origin increased by 51.3 and 122.7% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.

 In 2008, feedstuff of animal origin was exported only to Korea and Kazakhstan.
