Russian Market of Premixes in 2008: Overview

Production

In 2008 vs. 2007, the output of premixes increased by 19.0% in physical terms and by 52.2% in value terms.

Likewise in earlier period, in 2008 the structure of premix production remained the same: the major portion falls on poultry premixes (57.4% in physical terms). The share of premix manufacture for swine in 2008 amounted to 26.3% and cattle 16.2%.

The analysis of data on production output in 2008 served as a basis for the rating of major regions manufacturing premixes.

In 2008, premixes were manufactured in 19 constituents of the Russian Federation (RF). Among the Russian regions producing premixes, the top position in the rating is held by Belgorod Oblast. In 2008, its share made up 22.3% both in physical and monetary terms. Significant quantities of premixes were also produced in 2008 by Leningrad (15.6%), Tula (12.7%) and Novosibirsk (11.6%) Oblasts. The aggregate share of the eight leading regions (over 3.0% of the production output) in 2008 was 85.1 and 84.6% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.

In 2008, more than 20 facilities manufactured premixes. In 2008, “AgroBalt Trade” was running first in premixes’ production in Russia – its share achieved 14.0 and 14.6% in physical and monetary terms, respectively. In addition, substantial quantities of premixes were made by the “VitArgos-Rossovit” LLC – 12.7 and 12.4% and “BioPro-Plus NPP” LLC – 11.6 and 12.2%. The share of nine top Russian premix producers (over 3.0% of the overall volume) in 2008 made up 77.1 and 77.8% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.

 
Import

In 2008 vs. 2007 the volume of premix imports increased by 16.0 and 43.7% in physical and monetary terms, respectively.

In 2008, the share of premixes for swine in the overall volume of premix imports was 30.0% in physical terms, for poultry – 60.8% and cattle – 9.3 %.

In 2008,  Trouw Nutrition International B.V. (Netherlands) held the top position in premix imports: its share in the overall volume of imports made up 36.8% in physical terms. In addition, significant volumes were imported by such companies as AGRAVIS Raiffeisen AG (Germany) – 17.2% and Az Agrofeed Kft. (Hungary) – 12.3%. The aggregate volume of premix supplies in 2008 by ten top companies (over 2.0% of the total import volume) amounted to 93.1%.
 
Export

In 2008 the share of swine premixes in the total volume of premix imports was 54.7% in physical terms and poultry premixes – 45.3%. The volumes of premix supplies for cattle were traditionally insignificant.

 In 2008, premixes were exported to Hungary, Germany, Kazakhstan and Moldova.
